Fluctuat nec mergitur
She is tossed by the waves but not sunk: the motto of Paris since the 14th century.
Following the 13 November 2015 terrorist attacks, the Latin-language motto had a surge in popularity and was used in social media as a symbol of Paris resistance in the face of terrorism. It was projected during 3 days on the Eiffel Tower, illuminated with the colors of the French flag for the occasion.
Many landmarks in Paris and all over France have been illuminated with the tricolors. At the same time, cities across the world have lit up their landmarks in blue, white and red in sign of support and solidarity with France.
When the city of light goes dark, the rest of the world lights up for them.
